Child pornography

The dark web is a dangerous and often illegal digital underworld which is becoming increasingly renowned for its use in the distribution of child pornography. While the dark web has been used for many years to facilitate a wide range of activities outside of legal and moral boundaries, the prevalence of child pornography is particularly concerning. With the advancement of technology, it has become easier for criminals to access and use the dark web to store and share images and videos of overtly abusive sexual content involving minors.
The International Centre for Missing and Exploited Children has estimated that there are currently over 8 million images and videos of child abuse on the dark web. This figure is only expected to rise in the near future as the availability of technology continues to increase, enabling users to access and exchange this type of explicit material with greater ease.
In an effort to combat this issue, governments around the world have been cracking down on dark web activity and investing more resources into monitoring sites which are known for hosting child pornography. However, the sheer size of the dark web means that the majority of this content still remains undetected and is highly accessible to those with the know-how and the determination to find it.
As technology continues to develop, so too will the prevalence of child pornography on the dark web. As a result, it is crucial that governments, organizations, and the general public take steps to limit access to this content and ensure that the vulnerable victims of these abhorrent acts are protected.
