What is a script kiddie?
A script kiddie, also known as a skiddie or skid, is a type of hacker who uses pre-existing scripts or programs to gain access to computer systems without having any real knowledge of how those systems work. Script kiddies are typically not experienced hackers and are often minors. They may use their skills to vandalize or deface websites or use their access to install malicious programs or steal information.
Script kiddies usually rely on automated programs to carry out their attacks and generally lack the knowledge and understanding of computer systems necessary to create their own programs. They may also copy and modify code from other sources, such as online tutorials or open-source programs. Common targets of script kiddies include websites, networks, and even entire computer systems.
Script kiddies are not considered serious threats, as they lack the knowledge and skills to cause serious damage, but they can still be a nuisance. As such, it’s important to take steps to protect your systems from script kiddies. This includes using strong passwords, keeping software up to date, and monitoring access logs.
